September plate market notes
Halfway through the "golden September" window, the market's real colour is mixed: demand is recovering, but neither strongly nor smoothly. Plate turnover is visibly better than August, while prices stay pulled between mills defending offers and buyers testing them.
Supply: momentum from earlier orders
Mill plate lines keep high scheduling rates on the momentum of earlier books; arrivals accumulate steadily. Low-alloy and vessel grades lean structurally tight while plain-carbon sizes sit comfortable — the same yard holds both a queue and a bargain.
Demand: three supports, two drags
Supports: infrastructure finishing sprints, wind and solar delivery season, and continuing machinery exports. Drags: weak new housing starts, and small-manufacturing buyers still ordering hand-to-mouth. Fewer big lots, more small lots — yet turnover keeps moving.

Looking into Q4
Two variables matter: when mill output discipline shows up (it sets how firm the floor is), and how long export bookings keep running (they decide how much tonnage leaves the domestic pool). The advice to buyers stays the same — batch your purchases, roll with the need, and don't bet the project on one side of the trade.
