Boiler & Pressure Vessel Plate
Wherever pressure lives — boiler drums, petrochemical reactors, exchanger shells — vessel plate is the first line of defence. These grades follow GB/T713; the R in the designation stands for the Chinese word for vessel. What separates them from structural steel is discipline: performance heat treatment before delivery, ultrasonic testing plate by plate, and heat numbers traceable on every certificate.

Ordering notes
Three clauses must be nailed down in a vessel-plate contract: delivery condition, UT class and performance guarantee. Normalized versus normalized+tempered changes elevated-temperature properties; UT class per GB/T2970 (Class I or II) changes both price and lead time. Sour service demands an R-HIC order with HIC/SSC testing on a separately treated heat.
Above 60 mm we recommend forward booking from Wuyang or Xianggang — their heavy-plate lines have the deepest experience with guaranteed properties. On arrival we check stencil against certificate plate by plate; a mismatch means the plate does not ship.

Q345R or Q245R — which one?
Depends on design pressure and wall temperature. Q245R, with lower carbon, welds easily and serves low-to-medium pressure vessels; Q345R offers one step more strength and thinner walls. The design drawings decide — never substitute grades on your own.
What does R-HIC mean?
R-HIC plate resists hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) and sulphide stress cracking (SSC) in wet H2S service. Melting is tighter on S, P and inclusions, plus HIC/SSC testing — longer lead time and higher cost than standard Q345R.
How is UT specified?
UT follows GB/T2970, commonly Class I or Class II. Follow the drawing when specified; otherwise we recommend Class II minimum for vessel plate and Class I for critical equipment.
Can you cut it to shape?
Yes. Rings, dished-plate sectors and shell-development blanks are routine. Leave machining allowance on vessel plate and confirm bevel details before cutting.
